Roger Waters - The Wall 2010
The wall was actually a manifestation of Pink Floyd were experiencing between them and their fans. When fans started coming to live gigs only to smoke dope and drink, without understanding the music that was being performed. There was a specific event when Roger waters actually spit a fan in the face. That's what inspired The Wall. This wall that was building up between them and their fans. Also the wall is partly autobiographical of Roger Waters' early life when he lost his father in WWII and subsequently how his life changed. check out www.thewallanlysis.com
July 21, 1990, during Roger Waters' "The Wall--Live in Berlin" concert.
the main character was based on Syd, yes. but other parts are about roger waters losing his father in WWII, and about people who isolate themselves from society (although i suppose that applies to syd as well). *Different Poster* Actually, Roger Waters wrote the album about his own life growing up. How his father died when he was young, and his mother was over-bearing, and his teachers hated him, and eventually he felt like he has lost touch with everyone (including his fans), and thus built a giant wall between him and everyone else. But, there were references to Syd Barrett in it. Such as when he shaves his whole body. Barrett did that after having a mental breakdown. So, short answer: No, not really.
The current leader of Pink Floyd is David Gilmour. He gained leadership of the band in 1986 after Roger Waters departed the band in pursuit of solo projects. Roger Waters achieved informal frontman status after the mental breakdown and departure of his friend Syd Barrett in 1968. Roger Waters is credited with writing the majority of Pink Floyds most successful lyrical material, namely The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall.
No, Roger left albums ago and rick right recently passed, R.I.P. Yes and no!! New album due out October 2014 but of stuff done about the time of Division Bell with Richard wright. But maybe a new album (please) could be made with David Gilmour and Nick Mason. Roger waters still active so never say never.
The Wall represents a social barrier from the rest of society; isolation. Roger Waters wrote this album focusing on the way he felt after his father died at war.
