There is little likelyhood that the Earth will be destroyed in 2012. Planet destroying catastrophies are, fortunately, rare events. There is a very small chance that the sun could go nova, but current theories say that is extremely unlikely. There is also a chance that a large object could strike the Earth, but even the meteor that caused a mass extinction at the end of the Cretateous didn't destroy the Earth - and they only come along every 50-100 million years.

Billions of years from now. People will be dead before then but the earth will still be around.

I believe what is said here is true but only God knows.
the predicted end is December 21, 2012. No body knows....

There is no more probability that the world will end on that day than on any other date.

The origin of this is that one of the Mayan calendars (they used at least three) starts another cycle at that time, but the Mayan calendar ran out for the Mayans 500 years ago.

It is a story put about by charlatans and the ignorant. The former trying to make money the latter not understanding. The gullible believe it.

The end of the world has been predicted by fools throughout history and is still done to this day. Without exception none have proved correct.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! They said it would end in 2000 but it did not. Also, everyone thinks that the Myans predicted it, but the Myan chief himself even said that they didn't end the calendar in 2012 because they think the world was going to end, they just ended it just to end it. Because they can't just go on forever!

look at it this way people have sayed that for just about every single year and they only do it to say i told u so

None at all.

The closest scientific notation for the end of the Earth is not for another billion years when the Sun will become so hot that water will boil away - but even then, the Earth as a planet will still survive for another 3.5 billion years until the Sun becomes a red giant and expands until the Suns envelope almost touches the Earth and stripes away all surface features.

The Earth as a planet will not die. As an object for life to exist, it only has less than a billion years scientifically, unless "man" has any other ideas!!!!

Hard to tell, really.

In the long term, many possibilities exist; some interesting possibilities include a collision with a large meteoroid, the Sun getting too hot (in a few hundred million years), the Sun eventually giving no more energy (some billion years in the future), and Earth getting engulfed by the Sun (a possibility, when the Sun gets much bigger than it is now).

However, what we should be worried about in the short term is the possibility of humans destroying the planet; some of the pressing problems are the possibility of a nuclear war, the effects of global warming, overpopulation, the reduction of fertile soil (and increase of deserts), and others. I believe only the first one (nuclear war) has the potential of utterly destroying mankind; some of the others can "merely" cause an end of civilization as we know it.

You truly flatter us here at W.A., thinking that you can stop by here and get the

low-down on the future, as well as the answer to all of life's deepest mysteries.

We'd like to ask you to do something unusual for just a second. But before you begin,

please sit down in a comfortable position, just in case the unaccustomed stress causes

you to become light-headed. OK ? Ready ? Here we go. We want you to relax, take

a deep breath, and THINK for just a moment: Do you really suspect that anyone

anywhere in the world could know about a cataclysmic event that will occur almost

two years in the future, and that the best scientists with the fanciest equipment

and the most money to operate it with wouldn't have a clue, and that if somebody

did know it, that he would choose to keep it secret rather than give the human race

a chance to work together and find a way to avoid it ?

It doesn't make sense. But I like you, and I respect you for asking the question.

And I'm so eager to build on our budding relationship that I'd like to contact you

and tell you all about some really beautiful land that I own on a little out-of-the-way

lake in Florida, that I can sell you for a ridiculously low price, because I'm overstocked

and I have to get rid of it before the new models come in. We're going to have a

truck in your neighborhood the middle of next week so we can save you a bundle

on shipping costs, and if you buy one, we'll throw in another one absolutely free

except for a trivial packaging and handling charge.

I'd bet you a million dollars that the world will NOT end on 12/21/2012. Of course, if I lose I won't have to pay up anyway, but still.....

There is absolutely no reason to suspect that anything unusual will happen on 12/21/12. It will be the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere, but that's really about the only thing significant about that date.

It is possible to end the universe in 2012?

According to common knowledge, there is no reason for the Universe to end anytime soon.Quite a different question is whether the planet Earth, or at least life on planet Earth, could end at any specific moment. Yes, a catastrophe in 2012, or in 2011, or 2010, or in 2013, or in 2014... could destroy all life on Earth. There are several ways this can happen. But there is no special reason to single out the year 2012 - why the Earth should be destroyed in that specific year.

What asteroid will hit earth in 2012?

No significant asteroid will hit Earth in 2012. Asteroids hit Earth every year, most, if not all disinterate in the atmosphere. Only a few reach the surface. The 21st December 2012 myth is nothing more than a hoax.
