My theory on the world ending on May 11 is that Jesus would come back on that day which would end the world that we know. It would be permanantely changed from how it is now. I'm not saying it will literally end but the original world that we knew would be changed. But you never actually know for sure when Jesus is coming back.
Things are also metaphorical not always literal.
No, the world (according to The Bible) will NOT end on May 11, 2011, or any other self-proclaimed "Judgement Day." Mark 13:32 states word for word that no man knows the day or the hour of Judgement, not even Jesus. Only God the Father knows this, so with this in mind it is impossible for the world to end with our knowing in advance. It will just happen, without warning.
