At the age of 14, relying upon the internet as a safe and viable route for dating is most certainly not advisable.

Whilst opening the door to the world, unfortunately, the internet also opens a door to many, many dangers, as well as dangerous people. There are countless stories of young people being drawn into contacts with individuals who turned out not to be who they represented themselves as being.

Because confidences was built over time, starting in general chit-chat, the individuals pretending to be someone else, have drawn young people into very real dangers, some tragically, even ending in death.

Wherever you live there are many ways to meet people your own age. First place is through your school activities. Join groups or clubs in which you have interest. Speak with your school guidance counsellor.

Alternatively, seek joining a group sponsored through a church, synagogue, or social organisation such as the YMCA. And it is even possible that your local constabulary, or police station may be able to provide you with information on joining local activities. Through these outlets you will have an excellent opportunity to meet other people your age.

Being safe is paramount and I cannot imagine a more dangerous way for a young person, who is asking about meeting someone for the purpose of 'dating' than through the internet!
