In 1934 and 1935, $100,000 bills were printed in limited quantities for use by the Federal Reserve system but they were never put in general circulation. Most were later destroyed but a few were kept in public collections including the one held by the Smithsonian.
Currently we only have a $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills, but we used to have a $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000 bill for circulation.
