Probably, but doing so doesn't do anything for the coin's value. If it's worn to the point that the date is gone, the only value is for the silver content. The only exception is if it turns out to be a key date.

Are pre 1965 quarters rare?

They aren't rare, they are, however 90% silver and worth a bit over $5 each at the time of writing in silver content alone. Many, many, many, pre-1965 quarters were made but simply the fact they were made out of silver is what makes them valuable. Now, there are, of course, some rare years of silver quarters, but there are also very common dates (like 1964).

What is a fast way to search through lots of quarters to find the silver ones?

Other than looking at the dates, try holding a few of them together and look at the edges, the silver ones look different. Regular non-silver quarters will have a 2 colors on the rim but silver coins only have 1. If you live close to Canada this might not work as well. Using tis method Canadian coins look just like silver quarters.

Are 1965 quarter dollars forty percent silver?

All circulating quarters dated 1965 and later are made of copper-nickel, and don't contain any silver. The only circulating coins that were made of 40% silver were half dollars from 1965-1969. Proof and mint-set 40% silver quarters, halves, and dollars were struck for the Bicentennial and carry the dates 1776-1976. Other dates of 40% silver Eisenhower dollars were also struck for proof and mint sets.

Silver quarters melt value?

"Melt Value" refers to the value of the silver content at the current "spot" or raw silver price on the commodities market. These values change daily. If you can find a market quote for current one-ounce of silver, multiply that by 0.18084 (which is the pure silver weight) to get the value of one US Quarter dollar coin. Note that most such quarters were minted with dates BEFORE 1965 (with the few exceptions of some Proof Coins minted since the 1980's).

Assuming they're dated 1965 or later, $10 If their dates are earlier you'd need to have them checked for dates and mint marks. The silver content in pre-1965 quarters makes them worth at lease $1.50 each (roughly) and possibly more if they're old enough to be collectible.$10.00
