Good Morning,
I have checked the book & can't find an entry for Norman Thomson. The book in question was printed by a company called Lamb which were based in Perth, Australia & there is a foreword in the book by Capt. P.V. McLaughlin, RN dated July 1946. I also have another book about HMS Swiftsure 'Crossing the Line ceremony', December 1944, not sure he would be mentioned in there. A photograph was taken of the whole crew when the ship was in Hong Kong, which I have, he could be on it, as my Grandfather is.
Hi My Grandad was a CPO also on HMS Swiftsure possibly am engineer. His names was Leslie Ranson, he returned back to the UK in 1948 however, or at least back at home. I am trying to find out what his full rank was and if he was taken off the ship on its return or if he never was aboard it on its return. Can you find any entry in the book please?
Thank you.
Yes there is. A cruisebook was compiled in 1945 when the ship was in Australia with the British Pacific fleet, and printed in Western Australia. It lists all crew members that sailed from the UK on Commissioning the ship. Several names are missing as they were on a radar course when the ship moved to Chatham prior to sailing for the Far East in June 1945.
My Grandfather was a CPO on this ship,Victor Charles Whitlock. I have a copy of the cruisebook.

naval-history.net lists all allied casualties from World War 1 and 2 as well as others. The HMS Aboukir, HMS Cressy and HMS Hogue - all sunk by German submarine u-9 on the same day - with a loss of around 1,459 men total. Naval-History.net has casualty lists for all three ships
My grandfather served on this ship and is shown as a member of the crew on March 31, 1901 in the British Census at Ancestry.com. Also can be found at the British Public Record Office as document 'RG 13/740'
