There isn't really a difference between being raised by one parent or two. The difference comes from how much time and effort the parent or parents put into the child's life. Often single parents don't have the time or resources, but that can be true of two parents as well. Other things affect children as well, such as socioeconomic status, education levels, maturity levels, and development.

Is there a difference in a parent who has custody of the children but not married vs the parent that does not have custody and is getting married and is fighting for custody of the children?

Being married or unmarried is not much of a determining factor when it comes to custody nowadays. In order to have custody changed you would need to prove that either your household and parenting abilities are substantially better than the other parent, or that their situation is detrimental to the children. Having a spouse does not necessarily mean that you are better able to care for the children, especially if the other parent has had custody for a significant length of time without the children having any problems in a single parent household.

What is the contradictory position of children in todays society?

How we expect children to be raised, how they should be educated, nurtured and how they should react cannot always be met. We want them to have a care free childhood with a gradual assent into adulthood whilst being educated about the pressures and responsibilities. In truth children are being exploited for personal gain. Some are not receiving the personal care, education and guidance that they need. Maybe due to the ever expanding population or children being born to parents or single parent families that don't have the time or resources to cope.

How does Gerber market to children?

To be honest, I think Gerber markets more to parents by advertising on children's programming that parent's may be watching with their children. Gerber markets products that are for children at an age where a parent is more likely to be present during the advertisement being they are toddlers requiring supervision.
