I just found out for the State of Kansas that if the license expires on your 21st birthday, your license is still valid for 45 or until you renew, whichever is sooner. (HB2042 p.4 d2). I would think most states offer a renewal grace period. That doesn't necessarily mean a door-man will accept it but I would bet they would accept it a month expired.
