Where is American Express accepted?
They are accepted at most major places. Not all local places will take Amex because of it's high transaction fee. However, if you shop at Wal Mart, Raleys Grocery Store, or any company that's "large", then they will usually take Amex. Smaller locations rarely accept the card such as local restaurants, non-major gas stations, non-chain mechanics, corner shops/convenience stores and the like. Amex is not accepted in nearly as many places as Visa, MasterCard, or Discover cards.

Absolutely not, AMEX only accepts checks, wire transfers from an account owned by card member and EFT/ACH transfers. Paying a credit card with a credit card if there is anyone who accepts it is a clear indicator to the lender that you may be in financial trouble and are floating your debts. Further I can almost guarantee it will flag your account for a reduction of your credit line or for closure if the bank feels you have become a greater risk than initially thought of.

Edit from statement above: I just got back from mcdonalds where I live and they told me they accept amex. I think it depends on the franchise, whether or not they support amex or not. All credit cards? No they do not take JCB, Maestro, etc. just the bigger brand names.
