There is no legal age requirement. It is left to parental discretion.
From my understanding, a parent can leave their child or children home alone at any age, as long as they think they are mature enough to handle it. Basically, there is not a law in Ohio about leaving a child alone. However, in the instance that something was to happen while the child or children were alone, then something would be done legally.
because it's against the law. Silly.
That's private. The kids just need to be left alone.
I don't believe that there is a law pertaining to kids at home alone that are able to take care of themselves. I'm sure there is something for much younger children(babies, 1, 2 year old etc.) Also I'm sure that leaving kids alone all night long would be look upon poorly. A case would have to be made that it is somehow endangering the child's well being. As these kids are older, I don't see how that would be the issue.
In Manitoba, there is no specific law that states an exact age at which children can be left home alone. However, it is generally recommended that children under the age of 12 should not be left alone for extended periods. Parents are encouraged to assess their child's maturity and ability to handle various situations before deciding to leave them unsupervised. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of parents to ensure their child's safety and well-being.

In Michigan, there is no specific law that states the exact age a child can be left home alone. However, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services recommends that children under the age of 10 should not be left alone for an extended period. Parents are encouraged to use their judgment based on the child's maturity, ability to handle emergencies, and the length of time they will be alone. Ultimately, it's important for parents to assess their child's readiness before making this decision.
To properly answer your question, we would have to know which state you are referring to.
In the book "Lily Alone" by Jacqueline Wilson, Lily's mom left the kids alone because she had to work an evening shift as a waitress and couldn't find a sitter. She thought it would be okay since Lily is responsible and could look after her younger siblings.
There is no law in Florida about being left alone. If the child feels safe and has the ability to take care of themselves, as well as handle any emergencies that might arise, they could be deemed to be okay. Most authorities don't feel that 13 is old enough to be left alone for the night.
