There have been some issues with these EGT sensors, and they are not limited to the 08 model year either. Ford has improved the part a couple times now, but they can still fail. The worst part of it is the fact that the sensor will often break off in the pipe when trying to remove it. Previously when this happened, you would have to replace the entire exhaust component like a DPF (Diesel particulate filter) or DOC (Diesel oxidation catylist). Now there is a much cheaper solution for when that happens. You can get a replacement threaded bung on Ebay to weld on in place of the old one that has half of a broken sensor seized in it, or drill a hole and weld it next to the old one.

That is a much better and cheper solution than replacing the entire component if you are dealing with an EGT sensor that broke off.
