Call your local Chrysler dealer with the VIN and they will check your recall status.
I had a recall notice for my 97. You may see if your car had a recall notice for the same thing. If it does, just take it to the dealer for them to look at it. If it is bad they will replace it and it would end up costing you nothing and no headache replacing it.
Chrysler ordered a recall on Jeeps because of safety issues related to the large amount of deadly fires after rear-end crashes. The recall involved 1.5 million Jeeps.
I have a 1996 Sebring Convert. There actually was a recall for this in 1996. The shifter could be placed into neutral without the benefit of having the key in the ignition. What they had to do was to replace the shifter assembly under the recall warranty. Check with a dealer to see if this recall is still active. Sometime they expire, then it's on you. If it is still an active recall, it should cost you nothing.
Call your dealer regarding a recall on Sebring freeze plug leaks. You may get the dealer to repair your problem at no cost.
