In the Old Testament, after a king would send his men into battle and they had defeated their enemy, he would walk through the battle ground and take for his men the spoils. A piece of the defeated king's robe would be cut off and sewn to the end of the winning king's robe as a sign of victory. The different fabrics and colors would indicate the king's victories over each of the defeated kings. The more sewn on pieces, the longer the robe; thus the indication of a victorious king.

There are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament (a total of 66 books in the Bible). There are 23,145 verses (KJV) in the Old Testament and 7,957 verses (KJV) in the New Testament. If all verses were equal, that would put the Old Testament at 74.4% and the New Testament at 25.6% of the entire Bible.
The Old Testament and the New Testament are both parts of the Christian Bible. The Old Testament contains the religious texts of Judaism and sets the foundation for the teachings in the New Testament. The concept of the New Testament is concealed within the Old Testament through prophecies, symbols, and foreshadowing of the coming of Jesus Christ as the Messiah. The New Testament then fulfills these prophecies and teachings, providing a continuation and fulfillment of the promises made in the Old Testament.
