There sort of is its called Galaxy Mode, but there isn't an actual Story mode

The primary mode of the game is its Galaxy Mode, which has players trying to beat a series of objective based missions using certain characters. Each character available is split into their own galaxy and with their own missions, so if you like playing arcade matches over and over, you might have fun playing all the fights and unlocking all the extras. By playing through the Galaxy Mode, you'll unlock new moves, items that can be equipped, new transformations, and new characters.
