It is known that branches of the CIA have, in the past, researched the use of mediumship and ESP in attempt to forecast forthcoming global events that would have an impact upon the security of the United States, and recruited persons reported to be telepathic to try and foresee assassination attempts, Soviet espionage activity and so forth. However, this was a minor and very temporary practice operated by fringe elements within the US Intelligence Services, mostly on a sporadic basis between the mid 1950s and the '70s- it was never hugely funded or placed in much importance by the mainstream body of either the CIA or the FBI, yielded no conclusive results, failed to prevent major events such as the Cuba Crisis or the Kennedy assassination, and was eventually abandoned as being inconclusive and a waste of time.
