The plot of the movies was essentially to keep the Child of a Devil (Mephesto essentially) away from the him. Blaze is still struggling with the power and weight of the Rider and him being one and he disgruntling helps to protect the child. For those who have read the comics, they will explain that the first movie did not capture Ghost Rider as he was intended to be. The movie features a more "On the Road" feel that was a consistent theme in the comics. They tried to express more of the horror aspect of the Comics and Nick Cage studied the Ghost Rider comics to capture a more effective Blaze. Many critics of the films do not recognize the comics for what they are, nor do they ever fully indulge into the characters themselves. One thing that was criticized about the movie was the animation of a massive machine that Blaze imbued with hellfire. The problem with this is that there is non. Imbuing and animating machines with Hellfire is one of the staple powers of the Ghostrider. Another problem people had with it was the "evil cult". The thing about this is the Rider fights many cults through out the comics, so it is silly to become angry about it as it was fairly common.
