It'd be rare for a bike to be sold with one, but it's real easy to buy and install a bicycle computer, which will have those functions and more.
Electronic speedometers/odometers do work in both directions. The old cable driven speedometers/odometers ran backwards in while reverse.
An odometer is a machine that displays distance travelled. Odometers can show any number of digits ans so any number of miles.
derived from the motor vehicle instrument sector, which produced speedometers, tachometers, odometers, fuel level gauges, water temperature gauges, ammeters, oil pressure gauges,
They record in kilometers, yet distances on British road signs are prominently displayed in miles and car's speedometers read in miles per hour with km/h in small display just like the U.S.! As ironic as that sounds, it's a fact.
There are several top-rated bicycle odometers on the market, including the Garmin Edge 520 Plus, Wahoo Elemnt Bolt, and CatEye Padrone. Each of these models offers advanced features such as GPS tracking, wireless connectivity, and accurate distance measurement. Ultimately, the best bicycle odometer for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences.
Assuming you live in the U.S.A., there is no government requirement for digital speedometers.
Analog bicycle speedometers are often preferred over digital ones for their simplicity, durability, and ease of use. They do not require batteries, are less prone to malfunctions, and provide a more traditional and reliable way to track speed and distance while cycling.

Yes
I have pulled apart Four (4) differect Speedometers in which the odometers did not work. ALL of them had the inside RED gear basically disintegrated. Just remove the odometer 2 screws. Then remove the stepper motor, 2 screws. There you will see it (inside a white gear) disintegrated. I will probably be manufacturing the gear & rebuilding the odometer. Yes you quessed it, making a new gear ! YUK !
I would venture to say that all new cars have digital Speedometers. The cars computer knows all. It is where everything that the car does is processed and recorded. The days of the old speedometer cable and odometer cable are long gone.
yes they do
