There are "electronic cigarettes" that deliver pure nicotine in measured doses, without the harmful chemicals that accompany it in cigarette smoke. There is also the gum, which helps deal with the oral fixation while supplying measured amounts of nicotine. Neither is much help in stopping smoking, although either is far better than smoking tobacco.

We recommend nicotine replacement with the patch, along with a totally inert cigarette substitute -- such as toothpicks -- to wean yourself off the drug and eventually stop smoking altogether.

How much absorbed nicotine in Swedish snus?

About 15% of the nicotine in Swedish snus is absorbed. This means a standard 8mg sachet would deliver 1.2mg of nicotine. Most cigarettes deliver 0.8-1.5mg of nicotine.

How many packs of electronic cigarettes refills would it take to kill you if ingested?

An e-cigarette cartilage (one electric cigarette) can be filled with a solution containing different amounts of nicotine. On average, one contains about 3.6mg of nicotine. For an adult, who is a non-smoker, about 60mg would be fatal. So about 17 electric cigarettes, smoked in short succession could kill someone. However due to a number of factors (such as the absorption of the nicotine, the person's tolerance, and the density of the nicotine solution) it would probably take more to deliver a fatal dose.

Does blu e-cigs contain nicotine?

Yes it does, that is the main purpose of these units: that is to deliver nicotine in a safe(er) way.

Can a person overdose on nicotine from an electronic cigarette?

Yes. If a user ingests too much of anything (even water!), it can become toxic. However, with the nicotine amounts found in e-cigs, it would be exceedingly difficult to receive a toxic dose of nicotine, when used as directed. There are electronic cigarettes without nicotine, namely the SMOKeFREE electronic cigarette. So in this circumstance, the answer would be no. However, different brands do contain different levels of nicotine. With regular cigarettes the filter reduces the amount of nicotine one inhales however with electronic cigarettes the nicotine is obsorbed quickly through mouth, throat and lungs. The theory is that because you're inhaling more of nicotine without a filter - the higher volume you're receiving. Some say upwards of 300% volume of regular cigarettes. Research is being done by many organizations interested in knowing the answer to this question - since nicotine is considered a drug by the Food Drug Administration - I'm going to assume one can take too much and result in an overdose. However, only time and research will tell.

How do you absorb nicotine?

People consume nicotine by smoking tobacco products, using snuff or chewing tobacco, chewing nicotine gum or using a nicotine patch. Nicotine gum and the nicotine patch are made to be used in an effort to quit smoking. Snuff can be taken orally or sniffed through the nose, although the latter is an outdated practice.

What does tobacco have?

Cigarettes contain about 4,000 different chemicals, many of which are harmful to the body. The 3 most well known ones are:NicotineNicotine is the addictive substance in tobacco smoke. It reaches the brain within 20 seconds and creates a dependency so that smokers become addicted.Carbon monoxideCarbon monoxide combines with the haemoglobin in red blood cells and so reduces the ability of the blood to carry oxygen. This puts extra strain on the circulatory system, and can cause an increased risk of heart disease and strokes.CarcinogensCarcinogens are substances that cause cancer. Tobacco smoke contains many carcinogens, including tar. Smoking increases the risk of lung cancer, mouth cancer and throat cancer.Answer: It is difficult to quit smoking-even for those who are highly motivated. Mainly, this is because the nicotine in tobacco is a highly addictive drug. "In a ranking of the addictiveness of psycho-active drugs, nicotine was determined to be more addictive than heroin [and] cocaine," states WHO. Unlike heroin and cocaine, nicotine does not produce dramatic evidence of intoxication, so it is easy to underestimate its power. Yet the mild sense of euphoria it produces keeps most people smoking so as to experience the feeling repeatedly. Nicotine really does alter your mood; it does soothe anxiety. However, the tension the cigarette reduces is caused in part by the craving for nicotine itself.Smokeless tobacco-such as chewing tobacco-can deliver more nicotine than cigarettes and contains more than 25 cancer-causing compounds that increase the user's risk of developing cancer of the throat and mouth. Cigarette smoke contains tar, consisting of over 4,000 chemicals. Of these chemicals, 43 are known to cause cancer. Among them are cyanide, benzene, wood alcohol, and acetylene (a fuel used in torches). Cigarette smoke also contains nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide, both poisonous gases. Its main active ingredient is nicotine, a highly addictive drug.

Does a e cigar try to quit your smoking habit?

There is a short answer and a long answer to your question. The short answer is no. Now for the long answer. The reason the answer is no is because you asked will it help quit the HABIT. While smoking any electronic smoking device that used an atomizer to heat a liquid is WAY WAY WAY better for you, it encourages the users the replace their cigarettes with the electronic version, doing nothing to break the habit. It does however, if you choose, deliver you the nicotine your body craves without causing the harm of traditional tobacco. So if your question was,'does an electronic cigar help to stop smoking traditional cigars' then your answer is yes. Electronic cigars and cigarettes offer users the same feeling, taste, and nicotine as traditional cigarettez, without all the harmful efects of smoking tobacco. Electronic cigarettes have none of the chemicals that cause cancer, no tar that builds up in your lungs, and no smoke, smell, ash, or flame. If you are thinking about switching to smoking electronically, then do it. You will thank me later. Just make sure to find a company that backs their products and one that will let you try before you buy. - - - - - I never have figured out the point of the electronic cigar. The electronic cigarette, I can see that. But an electronic cigar is inhaled like a cigarette, tastes like a cigarette and has the same psychological effect as a cigarette...real cigars aren't inhaled, they don't taste like cigarettes and the effect of the nicotine is COMPLETELY different between the two products. Basically, an e-cigar is a huge brown e-cigarette.

How unhealthy are e-cigarettes?

As a former smoker and now an ecig user, I believe that ANYTHING has to be better for you then regular cigarettes. Independent studies say it is anywhere from 100-1,000 times better then cigarettes. So yes it is better for you then regular cigarettes and there hasn't been any ecig reported deaths. The real question is are they really 100% healthy. In theory without all the harmful chemicals in it is should be. But, it is too soon to tell, they haven't been around long enough for any conclusive answers. The FDA has taken the position that they don't really care if they are better and therefore not going to test the theory.

Stop Smoking Aids?

Stop Smoking AidsAccording to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a little more than 20 percent of Americans over 18 years old smoke cigarettes. Nicotine is a powerfully addictive substance -- more addictive than heroin -- and the other substances and chemicals in cigarettes are ruinous to your health. The smoking habit goes beyond physical addiction, however. The physical actions associated with smoking -- lighting up, puffing, holding the cigarette in the fingers -- are also habit-forming. The longer you smoke, the more ingrained these behaviors become. When you quit smoking, the physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal are compounded by the stress of losing these familiar ritualistic behaviors. Some smokers are able to quit "cold turkey," sweating out the nicotine withdrawal and coping with the psychological distress. However, many smokers find it necessary to ease into the transition of becoming non-smokers by using products that deliver nicotine without the smoke. If you're determined to quit, it's important to develop a strategy you believe will work for you. Consider the amount you smoke -- how much nicotine your body has become accustomed to -- and how many years you've indulged the habit. Stop smoking aids come in many varieties and contain different doses of nicotine. If you worry that smoking will be psychologically traumatic, look for products that offer help lines and support groups to help you deal with the stress.

Does nicotine gum have more nicotine than a cigaratte?

There is more nicotine in one single cigar than in one single cigarette. Cigars and cigarettes differ in both size and the type of tobacco used. Cigarettes are generally more uniform in size and contain less than 1 gram of tobacco each. Cigars, on the other hand, can vary in size and shape and can measure more than 7 inches in length. Large cigars typically contain between 5 and 17 grams of tobacco. It is not unusual for some premium cigars to contain the tobacco equivalent of an entire pack of cigarettes. U.S. cigarettes are made from different blends of tobaccos, whereas most cigars are composed primarily of a single type of tobacco (air-cured or dried burley tobacco). Nicotine is the agent in tobacco that is capable of causing addiction or dependence. Cigarettes have an average total nicotine content of about 8.4 milligrams, while many popular brands of cigars will contain between 100 and 200 milligrams, or as many as 444 milligrams of nicotine. Quote from the NCI's Web site: www dot cancer dot gov It should be noted however that the MANNER in which cigars and cigarettes are smoked plays a huge a factor in the amount of nicotine that is absorbed into the body. As you probably know, cigarette smoke is normally inhaled, whereas cigar smokers rarely inhale. It becomes a difficult thing to pin down at this point as you are now dealing with the absorption rates of nicotine through the mucous membranes in the mouth (cigars) vice the with both mouth and lung absorption with cigarettes. There are few, if any definitive studies that have really nailed down the answer to this question, but I suspect that it comes out that cigars deliver less nicotine than cigarettes - but this is just an unscientific guess as have tried both and I get a very light headed, woozy and almost nauseous feeling when I inhale all the smoke that a cigarette delivers, vice the almost non existant "nicotine" feeling from puffing (and not inhaling) a cigars smoke. There is also one last thing to point out and that is the amount of nicotine contained in different types/brands/sizes of cigar. For example, the ligero portion of a tobacco leaf (the top third of a leaf) contains much more nicotine than the bottom 2/3rds. Some cigars specialize in using all ligero, and some use none, and some use a mixture of both. Nicotine levels therefore fluctuate between these different types per gram of tobacco. It would be a wonderful thing if someone analyzed each of the major brands of cigars out there and made up a chart of nicotine levels in each. Then, those that enjoy the hobby, activity and flavor of cigars, but aren't really interested in getting a nicotine dose, could then choose ones that deliver a smaller dose.

What body system involves chemicals released by organs?

the circulatory system can deliver these chemicals (hormones) from one organ to another. for example, the hypothalamus and pituitary glands secrete hormones that work in other parts of the body
