Only the dogs that share that name. The griffin (or gryphon) was a MYTHICAL beast that had the forequarters of an eagle and the rear of a lion. Mate a gryphon with a horse and you have a hippogriff, just as a dragon-cow offspring is a kirin.

The Ancients thought such species interbreeding might be possible, but today we know it isn't as the creatures' DNA is not compatible.
