The saint's feast day is the day that that particular saint may be memorialized at Mass. It is sometimes the anniversary day of when the saint was reborn into Heaven (died) but that is not a hard fast rule. On any given day there are dozens of saints who appear on the calendar. The parish can choose to honor one saint in particular from the list for the day. Some feasts are mandatory and must be celebrated.
