It depends on the ingredients. Most people use basically the same foods... chicken or chicken broth, enriched noodles, carrots, celery, onions, salt and pepper. I make mine with as much garlic as a person can stand because of garlic's natural antibiotic properties. The chicken has some of the same calming hormones as turkey (why you get ready for nap time shortly after devouring Thanksgiving dinner), which helps your "patient" rest, and the pepper, onions and celery are slightly expectorant which helps with a cough (why this soup has helped people for many, many years). Your carrots contain not only beta keratine, but are a good source of vitamin C as well. The noodles are a good source of vitamins as well, but also add the benefit of "bulking up" the soup. If your patient is experiencing vomiting, just let them sip the broth (stock or "juice"), it will be easier coming up that way :)
