Portland is in Oregon and Maine and I'm quite sure in many other states as well, but these two are the most notable. You could consider: * Portland CT * Portland, IN * Portkand, Tn * Portland, TX * Portland AR * Portland CO * Portland FL or a * Portland KS. Some might be considered river ports or early vestiges of ports but some had to have been named for somewhere else because who can today envision a Port Land or Landing in high mountain country like Colorado.

I would recommend staying in Portland. Freeport has good outlets and a few good restaurants, but Portland has a much bigger selection of activities. They're only a 20 minute drive apart, so it wont affect much if you decide you like the other better.

The Canadian province of Nova Scotia is surrounded by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of St Lawrence; except for where it borders the province of New Brunswick. The province of PEI is in the gulf of St Lawrence and the province of Newfoundland is in the North Atlantic. Maine, USA borders New Brunswick and not Nova Scotia, but is the way most Atlantic Canadians access the USA and the most eastern USA seaboard state residents access Canada.
