The Non-Spoiler Explanation: Keep in mind that most of the characters in Gakuen Alice are under the age of 13, so the romance isn't fiery and passionate in a sexual way, but sweet and innocent. The Canon couple of Gakuen Alice is Mikan and Natsume and most of the fandom ships it because they're so shippable. There is somewhat of a love triangle between Mikan, Natsume, and his best friend Luca. It isn't the type of love triangle that overpowers the story, though. There is also minor romance in the retelling of how Mikan's parents met and the heart break between Narumi-sensei and his love interest.

The Minor Spoiler Version (Spoilers aren't too bad): Both Natsume and Luca become head over heals in love with Mikan. At first, Natsume can't stand her, but when she opens up to him, she grows on him. Luca loves her because she's a loveable girl, but because Natsume's life seems so hopeless, he needs Mikan. The boys give Mikan tons of trouble, which gives Mikan confused awkwardness.

The Major Spoiler Version (MAJOR SPOILERS. You were warned): Mikan falls in love with Natsume. For a long time, it seems as if Natsume's love for her is one-sided, but if you take a closer look you can see. Mikan always cared for Natsume and because she's so young, I don't think she had the capabilities or the understandings of love. When she matures a little, Luna Koizumi comes into her class and forces Natsume to "go out with her." This highly upsets Mikan, and even though she doesn't ever admit it to herself, it is heavily hinted at. Mikan and Natsume finally get together when they confess, kiss, and exchange alice stones with each other in chapters 144 and 145.
