Unfortunately, fishing is one the least fun professions that are currently in the game. There is not much to it besides casting and reeling in. That's all there is to it and it becomes quite tedious quite fast. Not anything you can do to make it exciting enough to not fall asleep.

you can not skip updating patches in World of Warcraft. They are incremental. You have to apply them in order. The client usually takes care of applying patches anyway so just let it do its job.
