They call it summer because like every continent on the world it has every season. Just because it is frightfully cold does not mean it does not have a summer season. Summer does not always have to mean hot weather and sunny days! For instance take the lower half of the equator while it is summer here and nice and warm it is winter down there and not as warm.
Both polar locations experience summer for the same duration as summer is experienced in each of the separate hemispheres.
Summer in Antarctica begins on December 21; summer in the Arctic begins on June 21 -- and each lasts three months.
Summer in Antarctica begins on December 21, and lasts until the first day of fall, which is March 21.
there is autumn in Antarctica but its still cold down there but if you u wanna consider it autumn but its still cold
The Arctic region, anywhere north of the Arctic Circle (approx. latitude 66° 34' N), has the greatest number of daylight hours when it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere. The Antarctic (including almost all of Antarctica), south of the Antarctic Circle (approx. latitude 66° 34' S), has the greatest number of daylight hours when it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere.
The earth Axis Tilt The end. The earth Axis Tilt The end.
During the summer months, both the Arctic and Antarctic regions are tilted permanently to the day side of the earth, making the sun just go around in circles until the equinoxes (when the sun eventually sets).
Only above the Arctic and Antarctic Circles experience 24 hours of daylight at any point. Being near the equator, the sun angle and hours of daylight don't change much throughout the year.
For the arctic region - probably not a lot. It's a long way off. The ANTARCTIC region would probably be of greater interest to NZ.
no, not in the summer
It can, but it depends which part of the Arctic. It is usually relatively warm in the Arctic, and this is a time when you get brief flower blooms on the tundra and lots of mosquitoes. Summer is very brief, but things really do come alive.
The summer is not a time period. Every place that is touched by the sun has a 'summer'. It is when it gets the most sunlight during the year.
Arctic north, Antarctic south.
The Antarctic is a landmass: the Arctic is sea ice.
Arctic. Antarctic is the South Pole.
Areas within the Arctic and Antarctic Circles experience 24 hours of darkness during their respective winter seasons. In the Arctic Circle, this phenomenon occurs around the winter solstice in December, while in the Antarctic Circle, it occurs around the summer solstice in June.
The Antarctic is colder.
The arctic. The Antarctic is on the southern most part of the world.
The Arctic surrounds the North Pole and the Antarctic surrounds the South Pole.
The Arctic and the Antarctic
The difference is that in the arctic there are Polar bears and in the antarctic there are penguins. You will never find a polar bear in the antarctic and you will never find a penguin in the arctic.
