Now, in the arms of our galaxies there are thousands of black holes. So, yes, black holes do exist in galaxies. Theoretically, a black hole cannot form outside of a galaxy, because to form a black hole you require either one or two superstars, and superstars do not form outside of a galaxy or a cluster of stars.
