My perception is that Annie Bryant attempts to show that sometimes, we shouldn't believe gossip and rumours and let them get in the way of fun, Isabel was picked on only because Anna and Jolie tried to spread dirt about her. Also, the book shows how Avery doesn't let being a girl stop her from playing basketball! I think she demonstrated her rights as a female on the sports court, wonderful book
