Pure gold is 24k, so you can't go higher and have 26k gold.
Gold can be both soft and hard depending on how pure it is, pure gold (24K) is softer than a gold alloy. And the lower the number the harder it is. 10K is harder than 14K, 14K is harder than 18K, and 18K is harder than 24K (pure gold).

I read somewhere that it takes about 1.77 or 1.74 ounces troy of 14k gold to make(smelter) out 1 ounce (troy) of 24k gold. I am trying to find the web site where I read that.. To get 10oz troy of 24k you would need around 17.4 to 17.7 oz troy of 14k
23k gold is not better than 24k gold. 24k gold is the purest type available.

One can tell if something is 24k gold by poking it with a sharp object. Gold is a soft metal, and the higher the karat the softer the metal, therefore if it makes a dent or leaves a mark, then the gold is 24k. Also, 24k gold is much more yellow, so, the color can help to identify 24k gold. And finally, bringing it to a jeweler to get it appraised will help to determine if it is 24k gold.
No. 24k is 'pure' gold.

There is NO SUCH thing as 24k ( carat ) white gold. Pure gold is 24k. In that 24 parts out of 24 is pure gold ( 100% gold). 12k would be 50% pure. But why would that matter ??? The other parts mixed in ( alloyed) is what makes gold other than yellow. Higher than 18k the other metals have a HUGE difficulty making gold other than yellow. Even at 14k and 18k gold wants to be yellow
The beryllium it is not in 24k yellow gold, the 24k gold it's to soft to made jewelry. The Beryllium it is other metalic element.
