Most certainly! I really hate it that The Bible is out of the schools and that homosexuality has replaced it, but morals can and should be taught apart from religion. Ethics should be a basic class for everyone.
Today it is needed in a general sense. So many students come into the classroom thinking cheating, telling lies, and bulling other students is OK .The teacher has to address these issues in the classroom to be able to teach. Many parents are not teaching these things to their children, so it is now left to the schools. I have had to model simple manners and to address issues with my students that should be in the home. I always tell them that they need to treat others as they want to be treated, but many think that violence is the only way to treat others and that to be polite is to be weak. It is a struggle as a teacher to teach everything we need to teach them and to also address these issues.
For the most part, I don't think there is a need for moral education. However, in some areas, I do think some people need some reteaching in what they believe. But ultimately, it is up to them and their conscience to decide what is right and wrong. We can try to tell them that - and it may work for some - but an education cannot do that for everyone.
