Where does the Bible say Jesus fasted 40 days?

Another answer from our community:Immediately following His baptism, the Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. Jesus fasted over a period of 40 days and then was tempted by Satan 3 times (Mark 1:12-13, Matt. 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13).

How many days did Jesus Christ fast according to the gospels?

In Mark 1:13, the story of Jesus going into the wilderness, where he was ministered by angels is an allusion to Elijah (1 Kings 19:5-7) who was ministered by an angel and in the wilderness forty days. There is no actual suggestion that Jesus fasted for this time, but those familiar with the story of Elijah are likely to have assumed he did do so.Matthew and Luke both explicitly say that Jesus fasted during the forty days in the wilderness. In John's Gospel, there is no mention of Jesus going into the wilderness or of him fasting for forty days. Instead, he returned to John the very next day and, on the third day, attended a wedding at Cana.

Did Joshua fast 40 days with Moses?

The Bible mentioned nothing about whether Joshua participated in the fasting or not. Exodus 34:28 however specifically mentioned that "he (Moses) was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments." By comparison, we can deduce that Joshua might not have fasted, otherwise the Bible could have included a comment/statement there. On the other hand, it appears that 40-day fasting has been specifically mentioned in the Bible and those individuals who attempted it have been named clearly. We know Moses, Elijah and Jesus all fasted for 40 days and it has been accurately documented in the Bible. It seems to us that if Joshua had fasted 40 days, the Bible would have indicated the same clearly. Therefore, we can safely say that Joshua did not fast 40 days with Moses.

What did Satan talk to Jesus about when he appeared before him?
