black fish was about a killer whale named tilikum and how he was kept in captivity for sea world. and no matter what he did or who he killed they still kept him..
The orca whale, named "Tilikum", still resides at Sea World, Florida. They have discontinued any shows that invovle trainers entering the water with the animals.
No he died on 1/6/17
Tilikum goes by Tilly.
Tilikum is about 30 years of age. He is the largest orca in captivity.
No :)
It was not a man but a woman that was killed by Tilikum. her name was Dawn Brancheau this was tilikum latest Victim. From my understanding the orca had another death that was accredited to him I think this was a man but I don't know his name. I'm not sure but I think this death happen back in the nineties
TiliKum will LiveAs to whether he is used in shows or not- that is undecided. He can't be released to the wild because orcas have complex social networks and he's already developed a 'domesticated' life that would make living in the wild rather harsh. Added update: as of 2/27/10, Sea World has announced that they will keep the whale and may even use him in future shows. They have changed their procedures and will now keep the trainers out of the water when Orcas are present.
SeaWorld has cared for Tilikum for a great deal of his life. He is an integral part of the SeaWorld Orlando pod, and he is regularly used for preformances. Tilikum also is willing to breed, which is important for research into killer whale reproduction.
sea anemones and clownfish
Tilikum was the whale who killed the trainer. He has killed three people. Two trainers and a homeless man. Tilikum started performing on March 30th, 2010 after his third death.
Shamu is just the stage name. The original Shamu died I think in the 80's it was. Tilikum is the one who killed the trainer. But his stage name is Shamu. No - Shamu (She - Name) was captured to be a companion for Namu. She didn't get along with him and was purchased by Seaworld San Diego for $75,000. The park had just opened a year before so Shamu was immediately trained to participate in the show. In August 1971, she died from Septicemia and Pyometra at the very young age of 9. She was so popular at SeaWorld, her name carries on as the trade mark name for orcas at Sea World. In other words, they have been lying for years as to the real names of the orcas there. Even the males are called "Shamu". Now that people are starting to realize they are indeed individuals, they can't run from the lie they've told to public for decades. Tilikum, meanwhile, after the attack and unfortunate death of Dawn Brancheau, has been kept in utter isolation ever since February 24th, 2010. He was also captured from the wild. To read more about him, go to Seeing is Believing, Tilikum's lonely life after Dawn, on The Orca Project. Shamu killed the trainer and got let into the ocean for killing loads of other trainers too
