YES!!! WAter is a very powerful solvent for anything that is ionically bonded.

Sodium chloride is an ionically bonded salt, so will readily dissovle in water,

Try it a home .

A glass of water and a little table salt (sodium chloride) ,put it in the wster and stir. Also washing soda, sodium bi-carbonate and sodium stearate ( soap). They all dissolve in water.

Also acetone,(propanone; nail polish remover) and alcohol ( Ethanol ; ethyl alcohol; the stuff that adults drink) are all soluble in water.
