Is whipping your child with a belt child abuse?

Yes it is. Striking your child with anything, including a belt, and your fists, is child abuse. Being hit with a belt is very painful (My parents have never done it to me, but my father was hit with a belt as a child) and is extremely cruel.

I think it isn't. I was whipped when I was younger and so were my siblings and my cousins, and it didn't make us crazy or bad people at all. And when we became teenagers we were'NT rebels without a cause either. We respected our parents because we knew better. It also didn't make us love them any less. America needs to stop watching doctor Phil and read The Bible. The bible plainly says "spare the rod, spoil the child". Everybody has different beliefs and I think that it should be up to the parent. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe that a parent should leave bruises or anything like that on their children, but I do believe in getting a child's attention. If you don't believe in whipping however, you should at least quit giving into your children everytime they cry. When your child throws a tantrum because they aren't getting their way and you give into that tantrum, you may as well be telling them "okay since your throwing a tantrum you can have your way". Using body language will help let your child know that No means NO. Another hint for new parents is.."parenting starts at home". What does this mean? Just as I stated above, when you give into tantrums your telling your child that your allowing this to happen. So, what happens when you are out in public and your child is acting awful? If you allow it at home, why wouldn't your child do it in public? Now back to whippings,...Never ever whip your child out of anger! You can hurt your child and you won't teach them anything. Tell your child to go to their room and you'll be in in a few minutes. Take time to think about what happened and be sure to explain to your child what they did wrong. Talking to your children before and after disciplining them is how you teach them best. You set an example for your children everyday. All in all my answer to this question is simply in the eye of the beholder. But, I just thought I'd answer in my opinion.
