i dont think so. maybe wait until the end of winter so then the horse woild have the foal in the spring or summer.

AnswerIts best for a foal to be born in spring, because then it is warm enough for the foal to be comfortable, and by the time winter rolls around, it will be big enough to handle it. Since a mare's gestation period is 11 months, she should be bred in the spring, preferable late spring to early summer. Horses can be bred in winter though, but it takes alot more and is not very healthy for the horse as it requires most or all of its time indoors. You would have to have a heated barn, and keep lights on for most of the day, to trick the mare into thinking it's spring because horses will not come in heat in the winter. Then the foal would be born in the dead of the winter when its coldest, so the mare would have to stay indoors all the time with the foal until it heats up. Staying indoors all the time in a barn sealed tight enough to keep it warm enough to similate spring allows unhealthy amounts of carbon dioxide in their lungs, so it is best and easiest and less expensive to wait until spring.

When is the best time to breed the friesian horse?

The best time to breed ANY horse breed is in the summer. When daylight is in its prime, so is the mare's heat. This is how it was planned in the wild. When bred in the early summer, foals were born in late spring, when grass was at its best, the temperatures were warm, and the foal had a long time until the cold winter.

How do you know if you should keep your horse in a stable or keep it at pasture?

This can depend on the breed of horse and type of work the horse is being used for. Example, is the horse kept for training and competition or is the horse for hacking/riding for pleasure. Stable vs pasture can also depend on the time of year -winter vs summer and of course the quality of the pasture- is there shelter and food.

Which of the following causes a horse to grow a winter coat?

If the horse is exposed to the colder weather, his body knows that it is time to grow a winter coat. However if he is blanketed and/or stalled, he will not be exposed to the weather, or not exposed very much, and therefore won't grow a very good winter coat because he has no reason to.Normally the change of seasons, but a winter coats keeps them warm and cozy during winter!!!

Does a saddlebred make a good horse for a first time horse owner?

They can. If it is a calm, quiet, well trained, preferably older saddlebred, they can make a great first horse. This goes for any breed. If it is calm, quiet, well trained and preferably older (because older is calmer) then any breed meeting those requirements can be a great first horse. What you don't want is a "hot", anxious, young green horse.
