I would imagine that wood would be considered a "pure" substance, compared to a mixture. Trees (wood) grow using a mixture of things like water and sun, but this is all up to nature. You can't take any two materials and fabricate wood (real wood that is).
Wrong! Wood is a mixture of cellulose, lignin, and all the other materials that make up plant cells. Just because a mixture is natural doesn't make it something somehow pure.
