you do apparently have an illegal version of Halo. get the legal version of halo to play the campaign.
How do you get the free recon armor in halo reach if you pre-ordered off game?
On the inside of your copy of halo reach there should be a card on the inside that has a picture of the recon helmet and it says HALO REACH bonus content Request: helmet upgrade__Type: "RECON".If you don't have xbox live (gold or silver) the card is useless to you. On the back of the card there is a tab you need to tear off, so now there should be a code on the back where the tab was. Then press the xbox guide button (round silver button int the middle of the controller). go to the marketplace tab. select redeem code. enter the code. let it download. then go play halo reach and it will be in the armory.

Either their is something wrong with your internat or your halo custom edition is stuffed because it does let you play maybe you need to reinstall halo custom edition.

Halo is perfectly fine I'm 12 years old and by now your son probably knows more than you can imagine let him have his time school is enough of a burden for us and when its not homework or projects or papers due we want to have some fun and halo is a very popualr game that is fun to play if your still not sure don't let him play live with other people. hope this helps you with what you chose.
