That standard was once considered the optimum but that has changed. The current standards range from 1.5 to 3.0 or higher. Note that algae become resistant to constant levels of chlorine at say 1.5 ppm and can still breed. It would be to your advantage to let the chlor. levels fluctuate between 1.5 & 10 ppm. Other chemistry balances - pH and Total Alkalinity - are contributing factors in swimming pool water being well balanced.
