Ive changed the water pump and the hoses on your 1995 Nissan altima but didnt put antifreeze in it only water could the water evaporate and cause the car to run hot?

I have only water on my Nissa Altima and the water does not evaporate. It would be a good idea to replace the thermostat. I was having problems with my car overheathing and replcing the thermostat fixed the problem.
