What does fjord mean?

It is a narrow, deep inlet of the sea. It's what is responsible for the jagged looking coastline of Norway (on a map). My dad's Norwegian. Ya Norway rules. And that's the main place fjords are located but I believe there are also some in Iceland, which are way less cool.

Well, I'm not sure that i completely understand your question! But I'll give it a try anyway! ;) The reason that the Norwegian coastline is so "fjordish" (a lot of fjords) is because in millions of years ago when Greenland smashed into the western coast the Norwegian cost where pressed up. The cost got ripped into peaces and created the fjords. The fjords are the sea and it is deep. Sognefjorden is the deepest and are about 1800 metres deep at the deepest. Norway is the main place where you'll find the fjords, but there is also some fjord-landscape in New Zealand. Hope this answers your question in best possible way.

Where are fjords located in North America?

Mainly Norway and other parts of Scandinavia. Fjords are what are responsible for Norway's jagged coastline (if you look at a map). I believe there are also some in Iceland but those are way less cool. (I'm a bit biased. Part norwegian.) Largest fjord is Sognefjord in Norway.
