It was the Indian poet, lyricist and director Gulzar, who shared the Best Original Song of 2008 with A.R. Rahman. "Jai Ho" was from "Slumdog Millionaire," the Best Picture winner of that year.
He did win an Oscar for the lyrics of "Jai Ho" that won Best Original Song. I guess he just wasn't present to collect it himself.
