Jesus had 12 apostles.
ACTS
Acts, the fifth book in the new testament, talks about the movement of the apostles and the early church after Jesus' ressurectoin.
Andrew was Peter's brother and one of Jesus' 12 Apostles. Matthew 4:18-20 Matthew 10:2-4
Peter was appointed by Jesus to be the leader of the Apostles!!!
Jesus called 12 apostles to serve him.
Jesus felt that He was praying by Himself. He was with a few of His apostles but He asked them to stay back and He went to pray by himself. Then when He returned to His apostles He found them sleeping. So, He was praying by himself.
Jesus instructed the Apostles, specifically Peter, to found the church in Matthew's Gospel. Thus if the Church were to have "founding fathers", it would be the 12 apostles. This is why the Church calls itself the "Apostolic Church on Earth" because it traces back directly to that of the Apostles themselves. You can read more about their founding of the church in the Acts of the Apostles book of the New Testament.
