king herod
Comment: King Herod is correct, but which one?
After Herod the Great died, he's the one that was alive when Jesus was born, then his kingdom was split three ways. One part, Judea was given to Herod Archelaus. This Herod was to be king over all Israel like his father, but Rome objected and he was granted only one part of the kingdom.
Another son, Herod Philip II ruled the area north of Galilee (Luke 3:1) and Herod Antipas ruled Galilee and Perea. It was Herod Antipas who had John the Baptist beheaded.
Herod the Great is the king that ordered the male children in Bethlehem to be killed who were two years and younger. (Matthew 2:16-18). At this time an angel warned Joseph to flee to Egypt. Then when Herod the Great died in 4 B.C. an angel told Joseph to take his family back home. But on the way back to Israel God warned Joseph about Herod Archelaus in Judea and so Joseph turned toward Galilee and bypassed Judea (Matthew 2:19-23).
Herod Archelaus was a rotten ruler and in 6 A.D. (corrected chronology), which was his tenth year of rule he was exiled to Gaul (France) where he died later.
So the answer to your question is Herod the Great.
Mary Joseph Butler died in 1723.
Joseph fled Israel after the death of Jesus for his safety, because Herod was persecuting Christians. he came back to israel after the death of king Herod, where he continued his work as carpenter, and died in later years. This question, however, specifically refers to what is described in Matthew 2:13-20 (for which a link is provided). As Herod died in 4 B.C.E. and this precipitated Joseph and Mary's return to the Land of Israel, It is likely that the trip to Egypt occurred within a year or two of this date. (This assumes that the Biblical Event is an actual historical event.)
Edward Mary Joseph Molyneux died in 1913.
Traditionally, in Christian belief, Joseph is believed to have died before Mary. This order of death is not explicitly mentioned in religious texts, but it is widely accepted within the Christian faith.
The Pharoah of Egypt killed them in B.C. times, not A.D. Also Harrod killed them the year that Mary gave birth to Christ in Bethlehem, Israel. Ironically, God had Mary and Joseph fled to Egypt to escape Harrod and they returned to Israel after Harrod died.
Joseph Lapid died on June 1, 2008, in Tel Aviv, Israel of cancer.
Joseph Shiloach died on January 3, 2011, in Tel Aviv, Israel of cancer.
Joseph Bau died on May 24, 2002, in Tel Aviv, Israel of pneumonia.
We know nothing at all about either Mary or Joseph other than what we read in the Bible. This does not even tell us whether Mary outlived Joseph, nor whether she remarried if he did die first.
The Bible does not give an exact age for Joseph when he died. It is not explicitly mentioned whether Mary and Jesus were with him at the time of his death. However, tradition holds that Joseph likely died before Jesus began his public ministry.
Joseph Zicherman died on July 17, 1998, in Tel Aviv, Israel of road accident.
If you're talking about the figures in the Biblical book of Genesis, then let's back up a few generations and try to get it straight: -- Abraham migrated to Israel late in his life. His children included his son Isaac. -- Isaac lived his whole life in Israel. His children included his son Jacob. -- Jacob left Israel, worked for his uncle for 20 years, and returned to Israel. He had 12 sons and one daughter. Joseph was one of the sons. Dina was the daughter. Joseph was forcibly taken to Egypt as a teen-ager. Years later, Jacob and the rest of his family migrated to Egypt during a famine. All of them died there. Their descendants left to return to Israel only after another 230 years, and only a few of them completed the return trip. -- Joseph had two sons: Ephraim and Menassah. There were no daughters. The sons were born, lived, and died in Egypt.
