Newton was knighted in recognition of a lifetime expanding the boundaries of science and services to the realm. In addition to his 'Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy' on gravity and the universe, he published works on theology, alchemy and history. Newton was appointed warden of the Royal Mint, and was sucessful in eradicating inefficiency and corruption in it. From 1703 to his death in 1727, he was president of the Royal Society.
