Where did Sir Isaac Newton get the title sir?

Newton was knighted in recognition of a lifetime expanding the boundaries of science and services to the realm. Not just a scientist, Isaac Newton was second Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Trinity college, Cambridge. Newton's reflecting telescope, made in 1668, brought him the fellowship of the Royal Society in 1672. The Royal Society is considered the holy grail of scientific achievement. Newton had a fascination for the composition of light and in 1704 published The Optiks which showed how white light was made from the colours of the rainbow. In addition to his 'Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy' on gravity and the universe, he published works on theology, alchemy and history. Newton was appointed warden of the Royal Mint, and was sucessful in eradicating inefficiency and corruption in it. From 1703 to his death in 1727, he was president of the Royal Society. He was not knighted until 1705, in the reign of Queen Anne.You cant be "sired", its called being knighted. For example, Sir Elton John was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1998.
