Keep on knitting your pattern until the you measure the length to be 1cm. If you are using thin/regular yarn shouldn't be that many rows. Probably 2-3 rows.

Knitting pattern reads knit 1 cm What is 1 cm?

1cm is one centimetre in metric measurements. one inch equates to 2.5cm. I use the width of my little fingernail as a good guide for 1cm.

How do you knit a 8x8 square?

Knit a sample first. Cast on and knit with twenty stitches to start, and knit until it's a few inches long. Measure your knitting. Let's say it's four inches wide. Divide twenty stitches by four inches, and that means that for every five stitches you knit, you've got one inch. Multiply that by eight and cast on. Knit until it's eight inches long. You could do the same for centimeters, just measure and calculate in cm.

Where can you find a knitting pattern for a kitten hat for a toddler?

You can find knittng books at Ben Franklins or WalMart. On your search engine, type "Free Knitting Patterns for children". I'm certain you will find something there. Have fun! Kate try this link there are lots of different patterns there : http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory.php This pattern : http://www.kittyville.com/knit/kitty_hat.html (The Official Kittyville Hat by Kitty Schmidt, also found in Debbie Stollers' Stitch and Bitch book) can easily be modified to fit a toddler by using a DK/8ply wool and making it a bit shorter (I made mine 15 cm from crown to brim)

How do you fix having one too many stitches on your needle when knitting?

The more complicated method is to tear out the row and reknit the row. If you have knitted a few rows, and you see the project getting wider, knit two stitches together. Depending on the type of yarn, you may not even be able to see the mistake. Knitting two stitches together, may make an unveven, or hole appearance in the work, but it will prevent the project from getting wider.

How does US worsted classification 4 compare with UK yarns in knitting?

See http://www.YarnStandards.com for how the categories of yarn weights compare in terms of relative gauges and needle sizes used to achieve those gauges. Worsted weight (Category 4 - Medium) is the yarn commonly used to knit sweaters in the U.S. U.K. knitters often use a slightly thinner yarn called "DK" (double knitting), which falls into Category 3 - Light. Worsted weight yarn is typically knit at 20 sts/4 in or 10 cm on US 7/4.5mm needles, whereas DK weight yarn is typically knit at 22 sts/4 inches or 10 cm on US 5/3.75mm needles. Some countries still use the old 2-ply, 4-ply, 6-ply, 8-ply classification to describe yarns, where 4-ply is fingering weight, 6-ply is sport weight, 8-ply is DK, and 10-ply is worsted weight. One problem with that system of classification is that it assumes a standard ply weight. There are many yarns these days (particularly in the Bulky and Super Bulky categories 5 and 6) that are single-ply yarns which knit at various gauges on various needle sizes.
