Patton's advance towards Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge began from the area around the town of Luxembourg City. Bastogne, a town in Belgium, was a critical location during World War II, particularly during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. The town became a focal point for American forces, surrounded by German troops and facing harsh winter conditions. The successful defense of Bastogne by General Anthony McAuliffe and his troops, despite being outnumbered, was pivotal in slowing the German advance and ultimately contributed to the Allies' victory in the battle. This stand became a symbol of American resolve and determination during the war.
Cornwallis surrendered to the American Troops at Yorktown, Virginia on October 19, 1781. General Jean Rochambeau and his troops, who were French, came to Rhode Island to help the Americans. Some French also came from the West Indies. Together they trapped Cornwallis and his men, forcing him to surrender his troops of 7,000-8,000 men.
