Violating work release can have consequences such as revocation of the work release privilege, potential legal penalties, and extension of the original sentence. It is important to comply with the terms of your work release to avoid further trouble.
I do not believe that formal "Work Release programs" are administered by prisons (felons). Work release programs are administered by jails for lower level offense inmates (misdemeanants).

You weren't physcically or mentally unable to work. I doubt it. Or, do you mean the prison term left you unable to work?
A halfway house is almost always a condition of your release from prison. Usually you reside in a halfway house as a condition of a work release programme or a parole. You're still supervised and you have a curfew, usually you must return to the facility when you're not at work unless you've got a valid reason to be elsewhere.
Go back in time and keep your pants on.
yes you can but it has to be an open prison
No, a doctor can't MAKE you do anything. He, or she, can, however, give you a release stating that you are physically capable of returning to work, and put that days date on it. If you were to return to work some number of weeks later, there is a very good chance they would want to see that release. Good luck.
it means that the inmate is on work release.
