Patent cases
Patent law derives from the letters patent ("open letters") given by sovereigns to an individual or corporation to endow them with rights, title, or (as in this case) a monopoly. Letters patent date back to 1331 in England, but even in Ancient Greece there are records of creators being granted a temporary monopoly on their inventions.
This is too general of a question because law is too specialized of a course. There is criminal law, civil law, probate law, corporate law, patent law, family law, contract law and the list goes on and on.
The first patent law was enacted in 1790
Help for filing or working with patents can be found under "legal services." A patent must be filed with the USPTO by either a Patent Lawyer (an engineer or scientist with a law degree) or a Patent Agent (an engineer or scientist who has passed the patent bar exam, but does not have a law degree). Both are found under legal services.
Brand names are protected by trademark law, not patent law.

Patent law is a specialized profession and the lawyer handling your case should have a very thorough background and experience with copyrights and with filing patents. The best thing to do is to contact your local bar association and ask for recommendations.
Laws are enacted by the Parliament and the Legislatures of various States. Under the Constitution of India, there is a Union list, State list and a Concurrent list which specifies the fileds in which the Central Government and the State Governments can enact laws.

"Patent law" refers to the various laws of nations and international treaties related to obtaining and enforcing patent protection for an invention.
