The gospels record that the crucifixion took place at 'Golgotha' or 'The place of the Skull' - a low hillside outside the city walls of Jerusalem. In modern Jerusalem, there are several places that claim to be the site, but there is one place where a rocky outcrop looks a little like a skull, even today, and there is evidence also that it was used as a rubbish dump in those times too - and therefore would have been an ideal candidate for the site as executions were often performed on the rubbish tips as the boies would then be left there to rot or be pray to wild animals and carrion crows.
